Located on Mount Maburi in the northwest of Lhasa, the capital of The Tibet Autonomous Region of China, potala palace is a fortress-like complex originally built by the Tubo Dynasty Zampsong Zanganpo to marry Princess Wencheng.
In 1994, the Potala Palace was listed as a World Heritage Site. The main building of the Potala Palace is the White House and the Red Palace.Because it was built on the mountainside, the large stone wall stood like a cliff, making the building seem to merge with the hill and be majestic.
The Potala Palace is 3,700 meters above sea level and covers a total area of 360,000 square meters with a total construction area of 130,000 square meters. The main building is 117 meters high and has 13 floors, including a palace, a pagoda hall, a Buddhist hall, a sutra hall, a monk's house and a courtyard.
The Potala Palace is one of the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units in China and one of the top ten civil buildings in the world. It focuses on Tibetan religion, politics, history and art. It can be said that the Potala Palace is a "museum of Tibetan history".
Visiting Instructions: Visiting the Potala Palace needs to follow all the taboos of Tibetan Buddhism, such as not wearing a hat, not taking pictures (after entering the palace, you can take some "outside scenes" outside the palace), not stepping on the threshold and so on.
